About the job

Work as a Social Support Worker in the Netherlands, helping people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.

What does a typical day look like?

  • Morning: Help residents wake up, dress, wash, and eat breakfast.
  • Daytime: Guide residents to activities, provide emotional support, and monitor behaviour.
  • Afternoon: Assist with medication, meals, and ADL tasks; communicate with families and networks.
  • Evening: Prepare residents for relaxation and bedtime routines.

You will also:

  • Observe and interpret non-verbal cues.
  • Handle behavioral challenges (physical and verbal aggression) using de-escalation techniques.
  • Prepare and follow signaling plans and use tools like weighted blankets or comfort rooms.
  • Work with varying patient ratios depending on complexity: from 1:1 for highly complex cases to 1:7 for less intensive support needs.
  • Follow shift patterns between 07:00 and 22:00, with day and evening shifts only (no night shifts), each lasting 7–9 hours.
  • The work involves the WZD (Care and Coercion Act) and there is also a reporting obligation for incidents.
Requirements
  • Strong resilience and mental stability
  • Education: MBO4 (dutch system), EQF 4,5 or 6
  • Comfortable working with behavioral challenges, including physical and verbal aggression
  • Empathy, patience, and strong communication skills
  • Reliable and able to work independently as well as in a team
  • Motivation and ability to learn Dutch
  • EU driver license, with commitment to own transport within 6 months
  • Willingness to travel to the Netherlands for the final selection phase (mandatory, planned for March)
What we offer
  • Employment under the CAO (2026 version):
    o FWG 35: €2,620 – €3,670 gross per month (full-time)
    o FWG 40: €2,900 – €4,190 gross per month (full-time)
  • Working hours & shifts:
    o Day and evening shifts only (no night shifts)
    o Shifts scheduled between 07:00 and 22:00
    o Shift duration: 7–9 hours
    o Contract options: 32–36 hours per week
    o EVB+ locations prefer 32 hours (36 hours also possible
  • Vacation & benefits:
    o 144 hours of paid vacation per year (pro rata)
    o 8% holiday allowance
    o 8% Year-end bonus
  • Onboarding & training:
    o FAH (Physical Aggression Handling) training
    o VAH (Verbal Aggression Handling) training
    o Additional ADL training, such as hoist usage and medication support
  • Team culture:
    o Quarterly team-building activities
